Angeline the Baker
Angeline the Baker is not often played by Old-Time string bands. However, I think it works well in an Old-Time setting. There are lots of versions of the lyrics floating around on the webs, so I haven’t included any here.
My version of Angeline the Baker is amalgamation of different versions I’ve listen to over time. Like the Yellow Rose of Texas, when playing Angeline the Baker with an OT string band, I’ll play the same music as both instrumental lead/melody and as a backup to the singer. Playing the lead/melody behind the singer gives the tune a true Old-Time feel.
Surprisingly (or not) the only versions of Angeline the Baker that I have are played by Bluegrass bands. If you know of any OT versions, please drop me a line.
